welcome (back) to shared sacred sites!
Shared Sacred Sites explores the complex and changing dynamics involved in sharing sites that are sacred to more than one religious community. We hope to bring greater awareness and depth to the study of such places: documenting their rich histories and material cultures, exploring the strategies of sharing and navigating challenges, and building a network to expand these studies to new regions and modes of encounter beyond those currently represented.
We are excited to launch our completely redesigned and updated website as a resource and networking hub for students, teachers, and other scholars. On the site you will find maps documenting the global presence of holy places shared between religious communities. Some of these sites are further investigated through Storymaps that guide the user through the places, highlighting their histories, rituals, and material cultures. There are links to museum exhibitions, film and video resources, recommended readings, a scholars directory, and related projects.
We hope you will find our site useful and engaging! Many elements will be continually updated, so please reach out to us with suggestions and additions.
